Fashion Illustrations

Now for something completely different.

I've got a bit of a knack for loose watercolor fashion illustrations. Once in a while a job pops up for this type of work and I get called upon to switch styles and mediums. It's a nice respite from the tedious layering of acrylics. The speed and quick decisions needed for these type of images is liberating yet restrictive at the same time. One false stroke and I need to start the whole painting over again. It actually took me a few shots before I loosened up enough to get the look that the designer wanted.

These four were my favorite out of the twelve.

Thanks! Actually I worked from the designer's pencil drawings.. which were very basic, but got the point across. I also had a meeting with her and went through all the details about the piece that weren't properly conveyed in the drawing.
She was really happy to see them professionally done.

Loosening up can be quite the bother sometimes. There are days when my linework can be SUPER TIGHT and I get tempted to drink booze to loosten up. hahahahaha.
I like what I am seeing with the looseness of the outer lines, but overall I think it could be looser. Maybe you should try practicing the super loose look more often, like at life drawing or sketching people outside. That always loosens me up.
Has the originator of the sketches seen these yet? What did she think?

Yeah these are pretty tight, but they're super loose compared to the ones I began with. I did about six of the designs and she liked them.. but wanted them looser. These are the result, and she really liked how they turned out.
Hmm.. drinking.. that would have been a good idea.. except for my bed being in the next room.. I would be too tempted to nap :)
