Mobile Art

Crime & Punishment

Fairy Tale Romance

Hey dudes ...
Just wanted to post some illustration work that I've done lately ...
I did these illustrations for a mobile phone company ...
They're "digital stickers" which you would place over a pic that was captured off your mobile phone ...
I had some fun working on the Crime and Punishment piece ...
Fairy Tale Romance was all right ...
Enjoy ...

A.S.S. #3 Sketches

I am working on Action Satisfaction Supreme #3.
In this issue you meet Russ's Family.
I am convinced that using the computer is the best way to go.
My process for this issue will be completely digital.
Let me know what you think.

Farewell Scarborough

It's been a while since I posted anything, but I recently worked on a five-page story that I'm submitting to a magazine for publication. It features a character called Town Cryer that I've bandied about in various forms in my sketchbooks for years. It's nice to see him finally used. Let me know what you think!

Captain America - Con Sketch!

Zen's Cap'n

Ty's Cap'n

Hey! Check out these
Captain America sketches that Zen & I did during the Paradise Comics: Toronto Comicon. They were handing out these Captain America comics with blank covers during the show. Apparently the comics were for some sort of auction. Zen and I gave it try and we're pretty happy with our results.

From The Human Fly to Super Fly

There is a site called Project Rooftop devoted to super hero fashion. The challenge is to redesign a character but still making him recognizable and not revamping his orgin. So I did The Human Fly in tribute to my father-in-law's childhood favorite.

the page before

Again some pre-inked work(page 2). Things to note: the last 3 panels have the same image of the hole in the door pasted on over each panel. Also there will be a lot of sound words added.

Princess', Fairies ... OH MY!

Alana is not the only one doing something different. Check it out, I'm drawing fairies and princess'! Before you say, "What the?!" I did this poster for a theatre company in Barrie. It's for their children musical Sleeping Beauty. I don't usually do this sort of subject matter ... but I had fun with it.
Hope you like ...

Fashion Illustrations

Now for something completely different.

I've got a bit of a knack for loose watercolor fashion illustrations. Once in a while a job pops up for this type of work and I get called upon to switch styles and mediums. It's a nice respite from the tedious layering of acrylics. The speed and quick decisions needed for these type of images is liberating yet restrictive at the same time. One false stroke and I need to start the whole painting over again. It actually took me a few shots before I loosened up enough to get the look that the designer wanted.

These four were my favorite out of the twelve.

Quite possibly the cutest thing I've ever painted...

Here's the final for the pet portrait of Ludlow. It's full of tooth rotting sugary cuteness! I'm really happy with how it turned out - and so are the couple I was commissioned by (phew!)

PLEASE BE CRUEL....and a little kind... but mostly cruel.

This one page(Page#3) of many in which I will post as the month goes by. I really want to hear some feed back before I lay down the inks. Like for example: where would a cast shadow sit on Diablo in panel#1?

Personally I'm not too crazy on panel#2 and already thinking of another option.

Life DrawingS aka Pam Beasley in the nude.

From a month ago...

May 3rd...because I was missing a new episode of the Office that day, the challenge was turning the model into Pam Beasley.

Teddy bear picnic

I was recently commissioned by a friend of mine who is a fabulously talented artist as well - www.samanthasandbrook.com - to create a portrait of her pet dog Ludlow. Rather than the usual pet in front of bland background Samantha had an unusual and imaginative request to paint her puffy toy pup at a formal teddy bear's picnic. Ludlow, looking like a stuffed toy himself, looks right at home among the bears.

I began by sketching out some different possibilities for the composition. Sam and her husband settled on their favorite two and suggested combining certain elements from both of them. From there I worked up a linear. Samantha requested mainly neutrals with pops of color. Since I'm used to working in a high contrast colorful palette I decided to do a color linear. This lets me check that she likes the color, as well it gives me a reference to print and stick to while I paint.

I'll show the final 16 x 16 painting once I'm finished.

Kitties!

Here are some cat studies for a self-directed project I'm working on. Just a little something to keep me busy when I'm between jobs. These are character studies. I want the style of the cats to be somewhere between real and cartoony. I took the liberty of coloring a couple of them in Photoshop, just for fun, and to make my sketches a little more interesting.

Secret Origins!

It's been a while since I posted anything. Work is keeping me busy. But here are a couple more pages of pencils for the next issue of Amazing Challengers. They tell the origin of the Scare-Monger.

Enchanted pick-axe!

I'm trying to make them look more dynamic. Ideas? They look kind of bland, like a Valiant comic book. Nothing wrong with them, but nothing particularly good. The problem is making it look dynamic while also making it look mundane (because that's the overall atmosphere I'm trying to make for the book -- superheroes, but really mundane).
