Kitties!

Here are some cat studies for a self-directed project I'm working on. Just a little something to keep me busy when I'm between jobs. These are character studies. I want the style of the cats to be somewhere between real and cartoony. I took the liberty of coloring a couple of them in Photoshop, just for fun, and to make my sketches a little more interesting.

Cute!
Yet, somehow I always find anthropomorphic drawings creepy. If these were animatronic, I'd lose it!

Did you use your cats as reference?

I can see where you're getting a creepy feeling. I love that about drawing cats, their lack of facial expression - I find it hilarious and slightly unnerving.

Didn't use my kitties as ref this time. I was looking at the Eye Witness book on cats (bought a whole bunch at the last Word on the Street - they come in handy.)

Maybe its the pitty kitty eyes you got going. save it for the kittens sister.

That's some fancy digital rendering. Especially the orange cat with all that hair.

It's just simple photoshop coloring playing with the brush sensitivity. I learnt it from Tom Richmond's blog http://www.tomrichmond.com/blog/?cat=8
