Lobster Goodness!

Here's the latest illustration I did for The Canadian Sportsman. When I was working on this piece I wasn't enjoying it, I don't know why. Maybe because I was busy working on my comic. But I really like how this piece turned out in the end and in print it looks great!

I think the Lobster in the X-ray and the guy getting caught would have been an interesting option.

I really think the background needs more details to show that it is on a plane, like the classic window or a few more seats.

The colouring is pro and so is the line work. Very well exercised and executed.

Zen .... yeah a window would've been nice ... i just didn't want to crowd the image too much ... keep the focus on the lobsters ...

I agree ... the other ideas would've been fun to do ... but they were so keen on this image ... what can ya do ...

I agree, just a small addition of a window would totally make it a plane. I dig the colouring, and facial expressions are great.

Did the editors/art directors you worked with have any input with the choice of the layout you went with for the final?

I work more so with the graphic designer and she is all for free floating images ... so she can have fun with the lettering around the image ... So lately with the illos I've been breaking out of the boarders ... it's been pretty fun ...
